Creating Azure Spend Notifications
Azure Cost alerts feature allows you to monitor and set alerts on your spending in Azure subscriptions. Azure Spend Threshold Notifications can be provisioned in several methods:
- Individually, at the subscription level
- In Bulk, at the agreement level for current and/or future subscriptions
- Default Global, at the account level
Creating Azure Spend Notification, Individually at the subscription level
To set a spend notification, select the "Manage" button under an Azure Subscription
Click on ‘Set Spend Notification’.
A screen will pop on the right-hand side. Enter the following details:
- Target Month Spend - enter the dollar value amount that you would like to set as the targeted monthly spend amount against this Azure Subscription. Please note that the currency displayed will match to your buy currency for Microsoft CSP.
- Email Address for Notifications - enter the email address that you would like to receive notifications for.
- Set Limit/s to get these notification - select one, two or three of the percentage values, to enable notifications when the Azure Subscriptions meets this percentage value of your Targeted Monthly Spend.
- Acknowledge your Understanding - Read and confirm your understanding of this feature.
Once completed, click on "Set Target Spend"
Please note that when you first create the spend limit threshold, and your current monthly spend has already surpassed the threshold, notification will commence from the 1st of the following month.
Creating Azure Spend Notification, in Bulk at the agreement level for current and/or future subscriptions
To set a bulk spend notification, go to main Microsoft CSP tile in PRISM and select tile "Set Azure Spend Limit"
On the following screen you will be shown a list of "Contract Agreements" that you have in PRISM. Please note that a contract agreement is a record of your MPN ID against your Microsoft CSP agreement. Against the contract agreement that you wish to set the Spend Notifications to, select the button "Existing and Future Subscription".
A screen will pop on the right-hand side. Enter the following details:
- Target Month Spend - enter the dollar value amount that you would like to set as the targeted monthly spend amount against this Azure Subscription. Please note that the currency displayed will match to your buy currency for Microsoft CSP.
- Email Address for Notifications - enter the email address that you would like to receive notifications for.
- Set Limit/s to get these notification - select one, two or three of the percentage values, to enable notifications when the Azure Subscriptions meets this percentage value of your Targeted Monthly Spend.
- If you would like this threshold to apply to all existing and future subscriptions, select the tick box against "Apply to all existing Azure Plan subscriptions"; if you wish for the threshold to only apply to future subscriptions, leave the tick box blank.
- Acknowledge your Understanding - Read and confirm your understanding of this feature.
Once completed, click on "Set Target Spend"
If you have selected to apply this Azure Spend Threshold to existing and future Azure Plan subscriptions, you will be requested to confirm your selection, click on "Confirm".
Please note that once you have created a bulk threshold limit, these values can be overridden at the subscription level using the individual threshold instructions.
Please note that when you first create the spend limit threshold, and your current monthly spend has already surpassed the threshold, notification will commence from the 1st of the following month.
Default Global Spend Limit Notifications
Please note that we also created some default notifications so that you will receive notifications at the 50%, 75% and 100% levels based on the following spend limits based in different currencies. The default global spend limit notifications will be sent to the MS CSP Notifications Contact and/or Usage Reporting contact.

Updating / cancelling existing Azure spend notifications
Click on "Update Spend Notification" or "Clear Spend Notification" to edit or cancel the notification.
Click on the clear spend notification button, and one should see a confirmation popup. Click 'Yes' to continue.
For modifying the existing spend notification, click Update spend notification. This should open the sidebar for adjusting the values.
One should see a confirmation message popup on the top corner of the screen on the update confirmation.
